FRINGE INSTALLATIONS
Creating fringe backgrounds has become a quiet, joyful practice for me. I love the way color comes alive in fringe - how strands catch the light, shift in tone, and feel different depending on where you stand. There’s movement built into them; even the smallest current of air sets them gently dancing, reminding me that the world is never completely still. I’m especially drawn to how air passes through fringe rather than pressing against it, giving the pieces a sense of openness and breath. The process itself is almost prayerful: the steady, repetitive rhythm of tying knot after knot slows me down, centers my thoughts, and turns making into a form of meditation as much as creation.
Matt and I have created multiple rainbow walls. One is still installed at Midway Hills Christian Church.
We were also asked to create an interactive community prayer installation at Midway Hills. We built out a 9-foot by 6-foot Ukrainian flag frame with ribbons for the church and greater community to tie on to represent their prayers. Watching the wind flow through it made it feel like the prayers were being carried on the wind to those in need.
